Abstract
Calvin Snyder Dead.
For Years a Familiar Figure on City's Streets.
Calvin Snyder, colored, died at his home at Hurley last evening, aged 90 years. For many years he was a familiar figure on the streets of Kingston. He was best known as "Cal," and for more than a generation he spent his time in peddling sassafras and other roots and herbs, which he gathered on the hills near Hurley. Prior to that time he was a well digger, and many of the wells about town were dug by him. During the latter years of his life he was rather feeble, but he showed traces of a vigorous constitution. He was deaf for many years, and being unable to hear what was taking place around him, he acquired the habit of sometimes shouting at the top of his voice, and at other times of talking in a whisper. One son and four daughters survive him. The funeral will take place at his late residence at Hurley tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.
