1858 Map of Old Hurley annotated with People of Color
Title
1858 Map of Old Hurley annotated with People of Color
Description
Annotated version of the 1858 French map of Ulster County, NY showing ALL Persons of Color listed on the 1860 census. Full, Ulster County map may be downloaded from the Library of Congress. The original map is about 70% accurate: in terms of landowners noted. Several white landowners and 3 of the 4 owners on color have been added using deed research. About 30% of the white landowners on the map do not match the 1855 or 1860 census. ALL People of Color on the 1860 Hurley census are represented here or on the detail map of the town, including a handful of people in West Hurley. EvH
