About

Hurley Mountain Stories is an online exhibit that focuses on two multi-racial communities living above Hurley Mountain Road, in Ulster County New York between 1800-1950. The project is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and administered through the National Writing Project. Dr. Wendy Saul, a retired professor and Marbletown resident, initiated the effort and is your contact person for questions and ideas for furthering the project’s aims.

By March 31, 2023 we will

  • use that history as the basis for a curated website.
  • provide resources for educators.
  • present a play as a way of interesting audiences in local history.
